Tour Details

At 6,263 meters, Chimborazo is one of South America’s highest peaks and holds a unique distinction. While it is not the tallest mountain on the continent, its location near the equator gives it a special status.

Due to Earth’s equatorial bulge, Chimborazo’s summit is the farthest point from the center of the Earth. This means that, when measured from the Earth’s core, Chimborazo is actually the highest mountain on the planet.

Chimborazo is a volcanic peak and was first successfully climbed in 1880 by British mountaineer Edward Whymper, marking a major milestone in the history of mountaineering.

  • Notable early attempt: Alexander von Humboldt (1802) – reached 5,878m, collecting vital scientific data on altitude sickness, flora, and Andean geography.
