What to Expect

New Year in Jordan is a unique experience. Here is what you should know:

  • Weather: December/January is winter in Jordan. Days are generally mild (15-20°C) and perfect for walking, but nights—especially in the desert—can be near freezing. Bring warm layers!
  • The Atmosphere: While Jordan is a Muslim country, they celebrate the New Year, especially in tourist areas. Expect a festive atmosphere in hotels and camps.
  • Crowds: This is a popular time to visit. We secure all bookings in advance, but expect sites like Petra to be lively.
  • The Walking: We walk on uneven terrain in Petra and Jerash. Comfortable, closed walking shoes are a must.
  • Accommodation: We use comfortable hotels. The night in Wadi Rum is in a permanent tented camp with beds and heavy blankets/heaters.
Itinerary

Day 1Arrival in Amman

Welcome to Jordan! You arrive at Queen Alia International Airport (AMM). Our team will meet you and provide a group transfer to your hotel in Amman. The capital is beautifully lit at night, sprawled across its seven hills. We gather for a welcome dinner to meet our fellow travelers and prepare for the holiday adventure ahead.

Day 2Jerash & The Dead Sea

We head north to Jerash, a Roman city that rivals those in Italy. We walk through the Oval Plaza and the Cardo Maximus, imagining life 2,000 years ago. In the afternoon, we descend to the lowest point on Earth, the Dead Sea. Even in winter, the water is unique—we float effortlessly in the salty brine and try the famous mineral mud. We return to Amman for the night.

Day 3King's Highway to Petra

We travel south along the scenic King’s Highway. We stop in Madaba to see the ancient mosaic map of the Holy Land and at Mount Nebo, where Moses viewed the Promised Land. We visit the crusader castle of Kerak, exploring its underground tunnels. We arrive in Wadi Musa (Petra) in the evening, just in time to see the sun set over the mountains.

Day 4Petra – The Rose Red City

We dedicate the entire day to the UNESCO World Heritage site of Petra. We walk through the narrow Siq canyon until the breathtaking Treasury (Al-Khazneh) reveals itself. We explore the Street of Facades, the Royal Tombs, and the Roman Theater carved into the rock. For those with energy, a hike to the Monastery offers stunning views. It is a day of walking through history.

Day 5Wadi Rum – Desert Safari

We visit Little Petra before heading into the majestic desert of Wadi Rum. We switch to 4×4 Jeeps for a tour of this Martian landscape, seeing rock bridges and red sand dunes. We arrive at our Bedouin camp for a magical night. We enjoy a traditional Zarb dinner (cooked underground) and listen to Bedouin music around the campfire.

Day 6Aqaba

We wake up to a desert sunrise and drive to Aqaba on the Red Sea coast. The warmer climate here is perfect for relaxing. We can explore the markets or take an optional boat trip.

Day 7Relaxation & Return to Amman

We enjoy a lazy morning by the Red Sea. In the afternoon, we begin our journey back north via the Desert Highway to Amman. We reflect on our journey and enjoy a final farewell dinner in the capital, sharing our resolutions for the year ahead.

Day 8Departure

Our New Year’s adventure concludes. Transfer to Queen Alia International Airport (AMM) for your flight home. (One group transfer provided). You leave Jordan with unforgettable memories to start the year.

  • New Year’s Eve: Celebrating the turn of the year in the stunning landscapes of Jordan.
  • Petra: Walking through the Siq to see the Treasury, a bucket-list moment for every traveler.
  • Wadi Rum: Exploring the “Valley of the Moon” by Jeep and sleeping under the winter stars.
  • Dead Sea: Floating in the salty water—a fun and surreal experience.
  • Jerash: Exploring the “Pompeii of the East,” one of the best-preserved Roman cities in the world.
  • Winter Sun: Enjoying the mild winter sun in Aqaba by the Red Sea.

New Year in Jordan: An Unforgettable Start to 2026

There is no better way to start a new year than by exploring one of the world’s most ancient and fascinating civilizations. Our Jordan New Year tour offers the perfect blend of celebration, culture, and adventure. While much of Europe is frozen in winter, Jordan offers mild daytime temperatures, bright sunshine, and a festive atmosphere that is unique to the Middle East.

Why Visit Jordan for New Year?

December and January are fantastic months to visit Jordan if you want to avoid the scorching heat of summer.

  • Perfect Hiking Weather: Exploring Petra involves a lot of walking. In the summer, temperatures can reach 40°C, making it exhausting. In December/January, daytime highs are around 15-20°C, which is ideal for hiking up to the Monastery or exploring the vast archaeological park comfortably.
  • Winter Sun: While evenings can be crisp, the days are often sunny. Down in Aqaba and the Dead Sea, temperatures are significantly warmer, allowing you to soak up some winter sun and even swim.
  • Festive Spirit: Although Jordan is a majority Muslim country, the Christian minority and the tourism industry embrace the holiday season. You will find Christmas trees in hotels, lights in the streets of Amman, and a joyful spirit of celebration.

The Magic of Wadi Rum in Winter

Spending a night in Wadi Rum during winter is a cozy and atmospheric experience. The air is crystal clear, making the stars appear brighter than ever. Our Bedouin camps are equipped for the cooler weather, with thick blankets and heaters in the tents. Gathering around a roaring campfire with a cup of sweet tea, listening to Bedouin music while the silent desert stretches out around you, is a soul-stirring way to reflect on the year gone by.

Petra: The Rose City

No trip to Jordan is complete without Petra. This UNESCO World Heritage site is even more dramatic in the winter light. The lower angle of the sun casts deep shadows and highlights the rich red, pink, and orange hues of the sandstone. We dedicate a full day to exploring this wonder, from the iconic Treasury to the Royal Tombs. Walking through the Siq—the narrow canyon entrance—remains one of travel’s greatest reveals.

The Lowest Point on Earth

We visit the Dead Sea, located 430 meters below sea level. The high barometric pressure here means the air is rich in oxygen, and the UV rays are filtered, making it a unique microclimate. Floating in the hyper-saline water is a fun experience for travelers of all ages. It is nature’s own spa, and covering yourself in the mineral-rich black mud is the perfect way to rejuvenate your skin for the New Year.

Why “Land Only”?

Our Land Only package is designed for maximum flexibility. Flights during the holiday season can vary greatly in price and availability. By booking your own flights, you can choose the dates and airlines that work best for your budget and schedule. You might even choose to extend your holiday in the region. We take care of everything on the ground—the safe transport, the hotel bookings, the New Year’s dinner, and the guiding—so you can relax and enjoy the holiday.

Join LifeTrek for a New Year’s Eve you will never forget. Leave the fireworks of the city behind and embrace the timeless beauty of the Jordanian desert.

Jordan

The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan is a coastal country in the Middle East. It borders Syria in the north, Iraq in the northeast, Saudi Arabia in the south and east, Israel in the west, and the West Bank of the Jordan River, where it also borders the Dead Sea, with an outlet to the Red Sea in the Gulf of Aqaba. The country sits between river canyons and is covered with dunes. Plant and animal diversity is exceptional despite the slight relative altitude difference. There are many endemics. It is a country full of contrasts and diversity, imbued with mosaics from all periods of history, the legacy of Islam and Christianity, and Bedouin culture. Jordan is one of the friendliest and most picturesque countries in the Middle East.

Wadi Rum and Petra

Wadi Rum lies 250 km south of Amman. Its surface resembles the moon, covered with sand and stone towers. This desert is a significant historical museum dotted with characters from the Bible and home to today’s semi-nomadic inhabitants, the Bedouins.

Petra is located 262 km south of Amman. More than 2,000 years ago, it was a haven for nomadic Nabatean Arabs and Bedouins from northern parts of Arabia. At first, they built necessary dwellings in caves and caverns, which grew into a real fortress carved into living rock, dotted with hundreds of buildings that these people built with their own hands.
