Step into a world where nature reigns supreme. The Faroe Islands are a dramatic archipelago of 18 volcanic islands, anchored in the North Atlantic.
This Land Only adventure is designed for active travelers who want to experience the raw power of the Nordic elements. From sheer vertical cliffs teeming with birdlife to grassy roofs and quaint villages that seem frozen in time, the Faroes offer a landscape unlike anywhere else on Earth.
Our program is a dynamic mix of hiking, sightseeing, and cultural immersion. We explore the iconic “hanging lake” of Sørvágsvatn, walk among thousands of puffins on Mykines (weather permitting), and stand on the edge of the world in the Northern Isles. As a self-sufficient group, we maximize our time in nature, often enjoying picnics with a view or cooking together in our accommodation.
Tour Type: Active Sightseeing / Hiking

The Faroe Islands are known for their “four seasons in one day” weather. You must be prepared for wind, rain, mist, and glorious sunshine—sometimes all within an hour!
Welcome to the Faroe Islands! You arrive at Vágar Airport (FAE). We gather for a group transfer to our accommodation. Depending on arrival times, we may take a short introductory drive to see the village of Bøur with views of the Drangarnir sea stacks, or the famous Múlafossur waterfall in Gásadalur. We settle in, have a briefing, and prepare for the week ahead.
We start with one of the most iconic hikes in the archipelago: Trælanípa. The path leads us along the edge of Lake Sørvágsvatn/Leitisvatn. From the cliffs, the lake appears to float hundreds of meters above the ocean—a spectacular optical illusion. We also visit the Bøsdalafossur waterfall where the lake spills into the Atlantic. In the afternoon, we may explore more of Vágar’s dramatic coastline.
(Weather & Ferry permitting) We take a ferry to the westernmost island, Mykines. This car-free island is a birdwatcher’s paradise. We hike towards the Mykines Hólmur Lighthouse, crossing a footbridge over the Atlantic. Along the way, we walk through massive colonies of Atlantic Puffins (in season until mid-August) and Gannets. It is a truly magical experience to be so close to these “clowns of the sea.”
We travel to the main island of Streymoy. Our first stop is Saksun, a village famous for its natural harbor which is now a tidal lagoon. We can walk on the black sand at low tide towards the open sea. Later, we drive to the northernmost village of Tjørnuvík, nestled in a deep valley. Here, we enjoy the view of the sea stacks “Risin og Kellingin” (The Giant and the Witch) and dip our toes on the black sand beach.
A day for culture and history. We explore Kirkjubøur, the historical heart of the Faroes, featuring the ruins of the Magnus Cathedral and the oldest inhabited wooden house in the world (Roykstovan). In the afternoon, we spend time in the capital, Tórshavn. We wander through the narrow alleys of Tinganes, where the Vikings established their parliament, and enjoy the harbor vibe.
We cross the “Bridge across the Atlantic” to Eysturoy. We drive up serpentine roads to the village of Gjógv, named after a magnificent 200-meter long sea-filled gorge. We can hike along the cliffs for spectacular views. If the group is up for a challenge and weather allows, we might attempt a hike up Slættaratindur (880m), the highest mountain in the Faroe Islands, for a 360-degree panorama.
We head deep into the rugged North. We drive through sub-sea tunnels to the islands of Borðoy, Kunoy, and Viðoy. We visit the northernmost village of Viðareiði. For the active, a hike up Villingardalsfjall offers breathtaking views of Cape Enniberg, the highest sea cliff in Europe. We return south in the evening for a farewell dinner to celebrate our Nordic adventure.
Depending on your flight schedule, you may have some free time for last-minute souvenir shopping. A group transfer will take you to Vágar Airport (FAE) for your flight home. Goodbye, Faroe Islands!
