What to Expect
Why to Morocco?

Just over ten kilometers from Europe, Morocco is the complete opposite of the continent on the other side of the Strait of Gibraltar. On the one hand, the feeling of royal cities and the hustle and bustle, and on the other, the reddish desert with numerous dunes and hilly terrain reveals the numerous characteristics and contrasts of this North African country.

Who is traveling to Morocco intended for?

Our trip to Morocco is designed for those seeking an active experience of North Africa without compromising comfort. Enjoy comfortable and pleasant accommodations, savor the local gastronomy, and immerse yourself in the grandeur of royal cities. We’ve got it all covered, whether it’s the bustling bazaars, the labyrinthine Medina, the remote desert dunes, or the Atlantic coast. This trip is for those who crave a diverse experience with just the right balance of comfort and exploration.

Itinerary

Day 1STARTING POINT – CASABLANCA

Fly into Casablanca or one of the other airports in Morocco. Our journey to Morocco begins with an afternoon or evening arrival in Casablanca and accommodation at the hotel.

Day 2CASABLANCA – FES

We start the day with a morning tour of the largest mosque in Morocco, which was built for six years (Mosque of Hassan II) and is one of the only two mosques in Morocco open to non-Muslims. We will continue our journey by train to Fes and, in the afternoon, walk through the streets of one of the country’s most picturesque cities, founded in the 9th century. We will move to the Middle Ages in one fell swoop, and thanks to the handmade leather and copper products, we will have the feeling of being in a time machine. Overnight at the hotel (Fes).

Day 3FES – VOLUBOLIS – MEKNES – FES

We continue our trip to Morocco with a morning tour of the medina in Fez. During this day, we will see them dyeing leather, making pottery, and honing their negotiation skills with guild masters. Further, the route takes us to the former Roman town of Volubilis, built during Juba II. We will see the thermal baths – the temple of Venus. Director Martin Scorsese used part of the scenography in The Last Temptation of Christ. From here, we will climb to the holy Islamic city of Moulay Idriss, where we will see the only round minaret in the country. We continue to Meknes, the city linked to the life of the most powerful Moroccan king, Moulay Ismail. A tour of the ancient city from the 17th century is a real feast for the eyes. Before leaving Meknes, we will visit Bab El Mansour, considered the most beautiful gate in Morocco, called the gate of North Africa. Evening return to Fes and overnight at the hotel.

Day 4FES – MERZOUGA

On the fourth day, we will spice up our trip to Morocco by minibus/van through the Atlas to the Erg Chebbi desert. The landscape is breathtaking, calm, and reflected in the red color evoked by the sand. Berbers still live in sparsely populated Atlas mountain areas. We will drive through a diverse landscape, passing by the Berber town of Azrou, famous for its art and craft workshops. In the middle of the day, we arrive in Midelt, where we will make a short stop. We will continue past the mountain pass Tizi Talghment, located at 1906 meters above sea level, and arrive in the land of countless oases and palm trees. In the evening, we arrive in Merzouga, followed by a camel ride into the unknown, dinner, and an overnight stay in a simple hotel or Berber tents – or even under a gentle sky on the edge of the desert.

Day 5MERZOUGA – TODRA GORGE

We will not lie down in the morning but wait for the sunrise on the dunes above our camp. Soon, we will be completely ready to enjoy the incredible colors pouring over the desert dunes. This is followed by the morning part of camel riding, bringing us back to civilization. We can go on a real Sahara adventure in jeeps. After that, we continue driving to the Todra canyon a little later, where we will spend the night in a hotel under the mighty walls.

Day 6TODRA – SKOURA

This morning, we will go on a short circular hike above the Todra Canyon to meet real nomads – mountain Berbers. Then, we will leave the gorge and follow the path of thousands of kasbas, forts made of mud and wood. We will spend the night in the town of Skoura, which served as the most important crossroads of trade routes from East, Central, and North Africa. Today, it is an oasis of peace and relaxation and an absolute balm after the long drives of the last few days.

Day 7SKOURA – OURZAZATE – AIT BENHADOU – MARRAKECH

In the morning, we will leave Skoura and drive through Ouarzazate, the center of the film industry, to the best-preserved ksar of Ait Benhadou, a former Almoravid outpost. Recently, the village has been the scene of many films (Gladiator, Indiana Jones, Jewel of the Nile, Cleopatra), and today, it is under the protection of UNESCO. Then, we will cross the picturesque pass Tizi N’Tichka (2260m). Today’s trip to Morocco will end in Marrakesh. We will use the afternoon to experience the city’s pulse and final preparations for the climb to Toubkal. Overnight in a riad (Marrakech).

Day 8FREE IN MARRAKECH – IMLIL – TOUBKAL

Free to explore Marrakech. A two-day ascent to Toubkal is also possible. From Marrakech, we will drive to the village of Imlil, where we will start the trek. On the first day, an easy path will lead us to the mountain lodge at an altitude of about 3200m (5-6 hours), where we will spend the night.

Day 9FREE IN MARRAKECH OR OPTIONAL FULL-DAY TRIP TO IMLIL IMLIL – MARRAKECH

Free to explore Marrakech or return to Marrakech if you also climb Toubkal.

We leave for Toubkal Peak early in the morning, and after 4 hours, we stop at 4,165m above sea level. We still have a long way to go to Imlil and a transfer to Marrakesh. We will have a well-deserved dinner at the lively Jemaa-el-Fna square.

Optional trip to Imlil.

Day 10MARRAKECH – ESSAOUIRA

Marrakech – this beautiful city is a symbol of Morocco. The streets, bordered by the colors of the brick buildings, are too narrow for traffic to enter the very center of the city. Winston Churchill, who spent his vacation here, called the city “Paris of the Sahara.” Haggling with Arab traders is an unforgettable experience, even better in Jemaa-eI-fna Square, the city’s main commercial attraction. On a morning tour in Marrakesh, we will visit the Kotoubi Mosque, the Saadian Tomb, the gardens, and the Bahia Palace. In the early afternoon, we will drive to the beautiful seaside town of Essaouira, as no trip to Morocco should be complete without stopping in Essaouira. We will settle in the hotel and then walk through the city’s lively streets, see the walls, and listen to the musicians – Essaouira is the center of music. Every year in August, the Gnawa music festival is held here, and it is visited by many musicians and music lovers from all over the world.

Day 11ESSAOUIRA

This day will be yours only. You will choose between shopping in the many shops where you can find everything from carpets and shoes to silverware, swimming in the Atlantic Ocean, riding camels, watching fishermen, etc., and somewhere in between, you will find time for a fish feast. The adventure in the coastal city will be a real inspiration before returning home. We will end the evening on the terrace or in one of the pleasant restaurants.

Day 12ESSAOUIRA – CASABLANCA – STARTING POINT / End of Program

Morning departure from Essaouira towards Casablanca and returning home by plane and road to the starting point. This will end our wonderful trip to Morocco, and the memories of this beautiful country will stay with us forever. End of Program.
