Join us for an exclusive 9-day mountaineering expedition in the Central Caucasus, Russia, as we summit Elbrus (5,642m) – the highest peak in Europe. This is a perfect first experience in high-altitude mountaineering, with all the characteristics of a real expedition. The Elbrus region is also ideal for ski touring, offering a thrilling descent from the summit.

What to Expect
  • A guided ascent of Europe’s highest peak (5,642m) with expert mountaineers
  • A pre-expedition acclimatization program in Georgia’s mountains
  • A classic mountaineering experience with a mix of hiking, glacier travel, and altitude challenges
  • Optional ski descent from the summit – a 2,000m vertical drop for advanced skiers
  • A complete logistical package, including transportation, accommodation, permits, and meals
 
Technical Difficulty & Fitness Requirements
  • Elbrus is not a technically demanding climb, but it requires high-altitude endurance.
  • The main challenges include cold temperatures, strong winds, and altitude.
  • Summit day can take up to 10–12 hours, with the option to use a snowcat for assistance.
  • For ski tourers, the descent is long but does not exceed 35° in steepness. However, conditions can vary from firm ice in the morning to deep snow later in the day.

Day 1Mineralnye Vody – Baksan Valley

Four hour transfer to Baksan Valley in the Central Caucasus. Check-in at the hotel in Terskol. Evening briefing and gear preparation.

Day 2Acclimatization Hike to Cheget (3,600m)

Cable car ascent to 2,800m, followed by a 2-hour climb to Cheget (3,600m). Spectacular panoramic views of Elbrus. Return to the valley, equipment check, and overnight in the hotel.

Day 3First Ascent on Elbrus (Base Camp at 3,800m)

Cable car ride to Mir Station (3,400m). Climb to Base Camp (3,800m) at “The Barrels” or a mountain hut. Afternoon acclimatization hike to Diesel Hut (4,100m) and optional ski descent.

Day 4Acclimatization Climb to Pastukhov Rocks (4,700m)

Early morning ascent to Pastukhov Rocks (4,700m) – a key acclimatization step. Return to Base Camp for lunch and gear check for summit day.

Day 5Rest & Preparation Day

Short hikes (up to 4,300m) for light activity and adaptation. Final summit briefing and gear preparation. If the team is feeling strong, optional early summit attempt (decision made the day before).

Day 6Summit Day: Elbrus (5,642m) & Optional Ski Descent

Early start at 2:00 AM for the summit push. Sunrise at Pastukhov Rocks (4,700m). Optional snowcat ride to save time and energy (for up to 12 people). 7-hour ascent to the summit, followed by descent back to Base Camp.

Day 7Reserve Day for Summit Attempt

Extra day in case of bad weather or an alternative ski touring adventure. Options for exploring the village, short hikes, or relaxation.

Day 8Optional 4,000m Climb & Final Celebration

Additional summit attempt for those who wish. Celebration dinner & farewell party.

Day 9Mineralnye Vody - End of Program

Transfer to Mineralnye Vody. End of Program
