An unforgettable family adventure in the land of Lawrence of Arabia and Indiana Jones.

Our Jordan for Families tour is specially designed to turn a holiday into a live-action history lesson that is fun for both children and parents. We have tailored the pace to be more relaxed, swapping long treks for exciting activities like 4×4 Jeep rides, camel trekking, and floating in the Dead Sea. We explore the ancient Roman streets of Jerash (where kids can imagine being gladiators), discover the hidden “Lost City” of Petra, and sleep like Bedouins under the stars in the Wadi Rum desert.

This Land Only package offers you the flexibility to book your own flights, while we handle all the on-the-ground logistics, including safe transport, comfortable family-friendly accommodation, and an expert guide who knows how to engage young minds. Itinerary

Day 1Arrival in Amman – The Adventure Begins

Welcome to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan! You arrive at Queen Alia International Airport (AMM), where our team will meet you and transfer you to our hotel in Amman. After checking in, we have some time to relax after the flight. In the evening, we gather for a welcome dinner where the guide will explain the exciting week ahead. Amman is a bustling city built on seven hills, full of lights, sounds, and the delicious smell of spices. It is the perfect starting point for our family expedition.

Day 2Jerash & The Dead Sea

We start with a journey back in time to Jerash, one of the best-preserved Roman cities in the world. Kids will love walking through the massive Hadrian’s Arch, running around the oval plaza, and testing the acoustics in the ancient theaters. It feels like stepping onto a movie set! In the afternoon, we drive to the Dead Sea, the lowest point on Earth. Here, we have a unique “swimming” experience where the salty water makes you float like a cork. We can also cover ourselves in the mineral-rich mud for a funny family photo before returning to Amman.

Day 3The King's Highway to Petra

We travel south along the historic King’s Highway, a route used by traders for thousands of years. Our first stop is Madaba, the “City of Mosaics,” to see the ancient map on the church floor. We then visit Mount Nebo, where Moses looked out over the Promised Land. We continue to the massive Crusader castle of Kerak, with its maze of underground tunnels that are perfect for young explorers. In the evening, we arrive at Wadi Musa, the gateway to Petra, and check into our hotel.

Day 4Petra – The Lost City

Today is the big day! We enter the UNESCO World Heritage site of Petra. We walk (or take a horse ride) to the entrance of the Siq, a narrow canyon with towering rock walls. As we reach the end, the famous Treasury (Al-Khazneh) suddenly appears—a breathtaking moment. We spend the day exploring the Royal Tombs, the Roman Theater, and the caves carved into the pink sandstone. There is plenty of time for photos and donkey rides for the little ones. We return to our hotel with tired legs but full hearts.

Day 5Wadi Rum – Jeep Safari & Bedouin Camp

We leave the mountains and head into the red desert of Wadi Rum, also known as the “Valley of the Moon.” This majestic landscape was the filming location for Aladdin, Star Wars, and The Martian. We hop into 4×4 Bedouin Jeeps for a thrilling 2-hour tour across the sand dunes, visiting ancient rock bridges and inscriptions. We also enjoy a short camel ride, experiencing the traditional transport of the desert. Tonight, we sleep in a Bedouin camp under the stars, enjoying a traditional Zarb dinner cooked underground.

Day 6Aqaba – Fun at the Red Sea

After a magical sunrise in the desert, we drive south to the coastal city of Aqaba on the Red Sea. The contrast between the dry desert and the blue sea is stunning. The rest of the day is free for family fun. You can relax on the beach, swim in the warm waters, or take an optional glass-bottom boat tour to see the colorful coral reefs and fish without getting wet. It is the perfect way to unwind after our adventures.

Day 7Return to Amman

We enjoy a relaxed morning in Aqaba before beginning our journey back north to Amman via the Desert Highway. We watch the landscapes change from coastal to desert to urban as we approach the capital. Upon arrival in Amman, we have free time for some last-minute souvenir shopping in the souks or a final stroll. We gather for a farewell dinner to celebrate our successful family expedition and share our favorite memories of Jordan.

Day 8Ma'a Salama – Departure

Our Jordanian adventure comes to an end. After breakfast, a group transfer takes us to Queen Alia International Airport (AMM) for our flight home. We say “Ma’a Salama” (Goodbye) to our guide and this beautiful country, taking home incredible stories and photos to show our friends.

This tour is designed with children in mind, but it is still an active adventure.

  • The Pace: We move at a comfortable pace, but there are early starts to beat the heat and crowds. We spend 1 night in Amman, 2 in Petra, 1 in Wadi Rum, and 1 in Aqaba/Amman.
  • Walking: Petra involves a lot of walking (5-10km), but the path is wide. Horses or donkey carts are available for tired legs (negotiable locally).
  • The Desert: Sleeping in Wadi Rum is a highlight for kids! The camps have comfortable beds and bathrooms. It’s like camping but with hotel amenities.
  • Food: Jordanian food is kid-friendly (hummus, bread, rice, grilled chicken). Western options are usually available in hotels.
  • Safety: Jordan is extremely safe and family-oriented. Locals love children and you will feel very welcome.

Jordan for Families: The Ultimate Classroom

Traveling with children is about more than just a vacation; it is about opening their eyes to the world. Jordan is the perfect destination for a family adventure. It is safe, historically rich, and geographically stunning. Our Jordan for Families tour is crafted to balance education with entertainment, ensuring that history lessons about Romans and Nabataeans are mixed with the thrill of jeep rides and camel treks.

Why Jordan is Perfect for Kids

Jordanian culture is incredibly family-centric. Children are treated like royalty everywhere they go, often receiving free treats and endless smiles from locals. The country is safe, stable, and easy to navigate.

  • Living History: Instead of reading about the Roman Empire in a textbook, your kids can stand in the oval plaza of Jerash, surrounded by columns that have stood for 2,000 years. They can touch the mosaics in Madaba and walk the same paths as Lawrence of Arabia.
  • Natural Wonders: The geography of Jordan is a playground. The Dead Sea offers a physics lesson in buoyancy that is pure fun. The Wadi Rum desert teaches them about geology and the stars, free from light pollution.
  • Adventure: From climbing sand dunes to riding camels, the activities are active and engaging, keeping boredom at bay.

Petra: Indiana Jones for a Day

For many families, Petra is the highlight. The approach through the Siq—a narrow gorge over 1km long—builds anticipation like a movie. When the Treasury finally comes into view, the “wow” factor is guaranteed. We structure our visit to allow for plenty of breaks. Exploring the caves and tombs feels like a treasure hunt. For younger children (or tired parents), the option to hire a donkey or horse cart adds an element of fun to the exploration.

Wadi Rum: A Night on Mars

Sleeping in Wadi Rum is an experience your family will talk about for years. Our Bedouin camps are comfortable and safe, offering a “glamping” experience. The desert silence is profound, and the night sky is a dazzling display of stars. The jeep tour is thrilling but safe, bouncing over red sand dunes and stopping at weird rock formations. The camel ride is a gentle introduction to the “ships of the desert,” offering a unique vantage point of the landscape.

The Red Sea and Dead Sea

Water activities are always a hit with kids. The Dead Sea is unique—the sensation of floating without effort usually results in fits of giggles. We also visit Aqaba on the Red Sea coast. Here, the water is warm and clear. The coral reefs are accessible, and for families who don’t dive, glass-bottom boats offer a window into the underwater world of Nemo and his friends. It is a relaxing end to an active trip.

Why “Land Only”?

We know that families have different needs when it comes to flying. Our Land Only package allows you to choose direct flights or stopovers that suit your children’s schedules. You can arrive a day early to let them adjust to the time zone or extend your stay. We take care of everything on the ground: the spacious bus with air conditioning, the family-friendly hotels with swimming pools (where available), and the logistics of tickets and entry fees. All you need to do is arrive and enjoy the adventure.

Jordan

The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan is a coastal country in the Middle East. It borders Syria to the north, Iraq to the northeast, Saudi Arabia to the south and east, Israel to the west, and the West Bank of the Jordan River, where it also borders the Dead Sea, with an outlet to the Red Sea in the Gulf of Aqaba. Its relief is trapped between river canyons and covered with dunes. Plant and animal diversity is excellent despite the small relative altitude difference. Also, there are many endemics. Jordan is a country full of contrasts and differences, imbued with mosaics from all historical periods, the heritage of Islam and Christianity, and Bedouin culture. Jordan is one of the friendliest and most picturesque countries in the Middle East.

Jordan with Lifetrek

Since Jordan offers many opportunities for exploration, we have prepared additional programs at the Lifetrek agency. The programs we carry out in Jordan are in addition to the Trekking program, the description of which you are currently on, and travel programs. All our programs in Jordan are completely adapted to families. Catalog of our programs: Jordan

Wadi Rum and Petra

Wadi Rum lies 250 km south of Amman. Its surface resembles the moon, covered with sand and stone towers. This desert is a large historical museum dotted with characters from the Bible and home to today’s semi-nomadic inhabitants, the Bedouins.

Featured from Jordan with Lifetrek

We will go to Jordan on a trek to one of the most beautiful deserts in the world—Wadi Rum. The desert adventure in the Arab world will inspire us with its diversity, and we will crown everything with the ancient kingdom of Petra. On the way, among other things, we will “taste” the charms of the Dead and Red Seas. In one sentence, experience the most beautiful desert with nomadic life and rich Arab culture.

Is Jordan suitable for families?

Even the youngest passengers will be delighted with this program. We prepared our trip to Jordan with families in mind. The country is more than safe, and children are welcomed with open arms at every step. We guarantee they will fit nicely into “our family” of Bedouins and that their time in Jordan will pass too quickly.
