What to Expect

This two-day tour offers one of the most scenic and accessible routes to the summit of Mount Triglav. Beginning in the vast spruce forests of Pokljuka, the trail winds through alpine pastures, panoramic ridges, and dramatic karst landscapes. Along the way, you’ll enjoy breathtaking views of the Bohinj Valley and surrounding peaks.

The final ascent includes a protected via ferrata section, where you’ll use a helmet, harness, and lanyard for safety. With professional guidance and a steady pace, you’ll reach the highest peak of Slovenia — an unforgettable achievement for any mountain lover.

Itinerary

Day 1Pokljuka (1340 m) – Planika Hut (2400 m)

Your guide will meet you in Bled and transfer you to the starting point on Pokljuka Plateau, a vast forested karst area at 1,340 meters above sea level. The hike begins with a gentle trail through spruce forest to the charming Konjščica mountain pasture, home to a traditional alpine cheese dairy.

The route continues through pine groves and into the scenic Jezerca Valley, deep in the heart of Triglav National Park. A gradual ascent along a mountain stream brings you to Studorski Pass (1892 m), where you’ll take a short break to admire the sweeping views over the Bohinj mountains.

From here, follow a panoramic path beneath the mighty peaks of Tosc and Veliki Draški Vrh, eventually reaching Vodnik Hut (1817 m), where a traditional Slovenian mountain lunch awaits.

After the meal, the trail becomes rockier and steeper as you ascend toward Planika Hut. Using secured cables in some sections, you’ll gradually leave the green pastures behind and enter the dramatic alpine world of high-altitude Slovenia. A final push brings you to Planika Hut (2400 m), where you’ll enjoy a warm dinner and spend the night in a cozy dormitory.

Day 2Planika Hut – Mount Triglav (2864 m) – Descent to Pokljuka

After an early breakfast, the final ascent begins. This is the most technically challenging section of the tour, but with a certified guide and proper via ferrata gear (helmet, harness, lanyard), you’ll be secure and supported every step of the way.

You’ll first reach Mali Triglav, followed by a breathtaking ridge walk to the summit of Mount Triglav (2864 m) — the highest mountain in Slovenia and a national symbol. On a clear day, the views stretch across the Julian Alps and beyond.

After a celebratory photo and time to take in the landscape, begin the descent along the same route, gradually returning to Pokljuka Plateau. The tour concludes with a transfer back to Bled.

Day 3Enchanting Engelberg

Our morning drive takes us from Swiss lakes to Swiss Army. At the once-secret Swiss army bunker at Fortress Fürigen, we’ll see part of the massive defense system designed to keep Switzerland strong and neutral. Afterward, a short drive into the countryside brings us to the charming Alpine village of Engelberg, our picturesque home for the next two days. We’ll settle into our lodge then head out for an orientation walk. Our stroll through the village will end at the Engelberg Abbey, a Benedictine monastery with its own cheese-making operation. You’ll have free time to wander back before dinner together. Sleep in Engelberg (2 nights). Bus: 1 hr. Walking: light.
