Discover Slovenia ski touring – a unique blend of accessible terrain, scenic diversity, and warm hospitality. Situated in Central Europe, Slovenia is easy to reach and perfect for exploring on skis, thanks to its compact size and well-connected mountain regions. In just a few days, you can experience everything from the rugged peaks of the Julian Alps to quiet forested valleys and charming alpine villages.
While the mountains may not reach Himalayan heights, they offer beautiful lines and rewarding descents. Most tours begin at elevations around 2,000–2,500 meters, followed by up to 1,000 meters of enjoyable skiing. The terrain is suitable for intermediate and advanced ski tourers looking for a comfortable yet authentic backcountry experience. This Slovenia ski touring adventure offers a perfect combination of diverse mountain terrain, comfortable accommodation, and easy logistics. Based in a cozy apartment house in the town of Kranj (400 m), you’ll enjoy daily ski tours to some of the best and most scenic regions in the country—all located within a 20–50 km radius. From one base, you’ll access everything Slovenia has to offer.
We will explore all three major mountain groups in Slovenia:
The Kamnik–Savinja Alps, home to Grintovec (2,558 m) and mellow tours above the Krvavec ski area.
The Karavanke range, with classic tours to Begunjščica, Stol, and open ridgelines above Kofce and Košuta.
And the majestic Julian Alps, inside Triglav National Park, with iconic ski routes including Mojstrovka, Kotovo sedlo, Križ, Rodica, Vogel, and even Triglav itself for the well-prepared.
Tours average around 1,000 meters of ascent per day, and are suitable for intermediate to advanced ski tourers. Most days include about 6 hours of touring, with beautiful descents in peaceful alpine surroundings. A licensed guide will lead the group, ensuring both safety and local insight into Slovenia’s most rewarding routes.
You’ll return each evening to your base in Kranj, where comfortable lodging and local meals provide the ideal setting to relax and refuel. With short transfers, no crowds, and the chance to tour in three mountain ranges in one trip, Slovenia offers compact variety like no other destination.
Arrival at Ljubljana Airport and transfer to the charming alpine town of Kranj (approx. 15–20 min). Accommodation in a comfortable apartment where you’ll stay for the entire week.
Each day, based on weather, snow conditions, and group fitness, we will choose the best available tour from one of Slovenia’s three main mountain groups:
Julian Alps: The most diverse options, including Mojstrovka, Kotovo sedlo, Rodica, Križ, Kredarica, and Za Cmirom.
Kamnik–Savinja Alps: Classic tours to Grintovec, Storžič, and Ledinski vrh.
Karavanke: Gentle but scenic tours such as Begunjščica and Stol, with sweeping views into Austria.
Each evening, the group and guide will evaluate conditions and select the optimal destination for the following day. Expect around 1,000 m of ascent and 6 hours of touring per day, with rewarding descents in varied alpine terrain. All nights are spent in Kranj, allowing for consistent comfort and recovery.
After breakfast, transfer to Ljubljana Airport for your return flight. End of program.
